1 Timothy 4:1-2 (AMP) – But the [Holy] Spirit explicitly and unmistakably declares that in later times some will turn away from the faith, paying attention instead to deceitful and seductive spirits and doctrines of demons, [misled] by the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared [cauterized] as with a branding iron [leaving them incapable of ethical functioning] …

Romans 1:24-28 (AMP) – Therefore YHWH gave them over in the lusts of their own hearts to [sexual] impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them [abandoning them to the degrading power of sin], because [by choice] they exchanged the truth of YHWH for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

For this reason, YHWH gave them over to degrading and vile passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural [a function contrary to nature], and in the same way also the men turned away from the natural function of the woman and were consumed with their desire toward one another, men with men committing shameful acts and in return receiving in their own bodies the inevitable and appropriate penalty for their wrongdoing.

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge YHWH or consider Him worth knowing [as their Creator], YHWH gave them over to a depraved mind, to do things which are improper and repulsive…

Ephesians 4:17-19 (AMP) – So this I say, and solemnly affirm together with the Lord [as in His presence], that you must no longer live as the [unbelieving] Gentiles live, in the futility of their minds [and in the foolishness and emptiness of their souls], for their [moral] understanding is darkened and their reasoning is clouded; [they are] alienated and self-banished from the life of YHWH [with no share in it; this is] because of the [willful] ignorance and spiritual blindness that is [deep-seated] within them, because of the hardness and insensitivity of their heart. And they, [the ungodly in their spiritual apathy], having become callous and unfeeling, have given themselves over [as prey] to unbridled sensuality, eagerly craving the practice of every kind of impurity [that their desires may demand].

In order to get rid of a seared conscience, one will have to be broken.

Jeremiah 23:29 (NASB) – “Is not My word like fire?” declares YHWH, “and like a hammer which shatters a rock?”

Isaiah 8:14-15 (ESV) – [YHWH declared,] “And He will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many shall stumble on it. They shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.”

Matthew 21:44 – [Yahshua declared,] “He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed.”

Romans 9:30-33 (ESV) – What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness did not succeed in reaching that law. Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, as it is written, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame [Isaiah 8:14, Isaiah 28:16].”

1 Peter 2:7-8 (ESV) – So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,

“The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”

 and

“A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.”

They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

1 Corinthians 1:23 (ESV) – …but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles…
