Three-Month Bible Reading Notes – Part 6 – Jeremiah, Section 2

11:16 “The Lord called your name, Green Olive Tree, Lovely and of Good Fruit. With the noise of a great tumult He has kindled fire on it, And its branches are broken.”

Romans 11:17 “And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree…”

John 15:2 “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”

Fulfillment of the curse (promise) of Deuteronomy 28:40 “You shall have olive trees throughout all your territory, but you shall not anoint yourself with the oil; for your olives shall drop off.”

11:19 “But I was like a docile lamb brought to the slaughter…”
Isaiah 53:7 [Acts 8:32] “He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.” Also see Matthew 26:63, Matthew 27:12, Mark 14:61, Mark 15:5, Luke 23:9, John 19:9, John 1:29, 1 Peter 1:19, Psalm 39:2.

“…and I did not know that they had devised schemes against me, saying, ‘Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be remembered no more.’”
Nehemiah 9:26 “Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against You, cast Your law behind their backs and killed Your prophets, who testified against them to turn them to Yourself; and they worked great provocations.” Also see 1 Kings 19:10, 2 Chronicles 24:21, Matthew 23:34, Matthew 23:35, Luke 11:51, Hebrews 11:37.
The ancients had the idea that (1) the gift of prophecy was hereditary and (2) killing a prophet would spare them from the judgment the prophet pronounced. They understood the concept of manifesting by the tongue but were mistaken in trying to control Yah’s Will.

12:2 “You have planted them, yes, they have taken root; they grow, yes, they bear fruit.”
11:17 “For the Lord of hosts, Who planted you…”

Exodus 15:17 “You will bring them in and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance, in the place, O Lord, which You have made For Your own dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.”

2 Samuel 7:10 “Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously,”

Psalm 80:8 “You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the nations, and planted it.”

Psalm 80:15 “And the vineyard which Your right hand has planted, And the branch [son] that You made strong for Yourself.”

Psalm 44:2 “You drove out the nations with Your hand, but them You planted; You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out.”

Isaiah 5:2 “He dug it up and cleared out its stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, And also made a winepress in it; So He expected it to bring forth good grapes, But it brought forth wild grapes.”

Also see Matthew 21:33, Mark 12:1, Luke 13:6, John 15:1, Psalm 37:35, Jeremiah 45:4.

You are near in their mouth but far from their mind.”

Isaiah 29:13 [Matthew 15:8, Mark 7:6] “Therefore the Lord said: ‘Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me…’”

3:10 “And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but in pretense,” says the Lord.

Titus 1:16 “They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.”

Proverbs 30:12There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, yet is not washed from its filthiness.”

12:16 “…to swear by My name, ‘As the Lord lives,’ as they taught My people to swear by Baal…” Ouch! No wonder the Lord declared He hated them (12:8). Faith = loyalty + trust.

13:11 “For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,” says the Lord, “that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.”

Exodus 19:56 “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. [1 Peter 2:5, 1 Peter 2:9, Revelation 1:6, Revelation 5:10, Leviticus 19:2].”
Revelation 1:13 “…and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. The golden sash in Revelation = the future reign of Christ with His Overcomers.

13:12-14 “Therefore you shall speak to them this word: ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: “Every bottle [skin, jar] shall be filled with wine.”’

“And they will say to you, ‘Do we not certainly know that every bottle [skin, jar] will be filled with wine?’

Matthew 9:17, Mark 2:22 and Luke 5:3738 “Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

Job 32:19 “Indeed my belly is like wine that has no vent; It is ready to burst like new wineskins.”

“Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land—even the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness! And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together,” says the Lord. “I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy, but will destroy them.”’”

Isaiah 63:6 “I trampled the nations in My anger; in My wrath I made them drunk and poured out their blood on the ground.”

Isaiah 51:17 “Awake, awake! Rise up, O Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the hand of the LORD the cup of His fury; you who have drained the goblet to the dregs—the cup that makes men stagger.”

25:27 “Then you are to tell them that this is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Drink, get drunk, and vomit. Fall down and never get up again, because of the sword I will send among you.’”
Psalm 60:3 “You have shown Your people hardship; we are staggered from the wine You made us drink.”
Psalm 75:8 “For a cup is in the hand of the Lord, full of foaming wine mixed with spices. He pours from His cup, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to the dregs.”
You are the container. Your agreement with the Lord determines how you will be filled.

15:1Even if Moses and Samuel stood before Me, My mind [heart, life] would not be favorable toward this people.” This reminds me of Ezekiel 14:14 “Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver only themselves by their righteousness.”

15:16 “Your words were found, and I ate them.”

Psalm 119:103 How sweet are Your words to my taste—sweeter than honey in my mouth!

Ezekiel 2:8 “Open your mouth and eat what I [the Lord] give you.”
Ezekiel 3:3 “Son of man,” He said to me, “eat and fill your stomach with this scroll I am giving you.” So I ate, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth.

Revelation 10:9 And I went to the angel and said, “Give me the small scroll.”

Take it and eat it,” he said. “It will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.”

John 6:26-58 “For My flesh [the Word of God] is food [for the ear, the soul] indeed, and My blood [My life, My works, My sacrifice] is drink [for the eyes, the soul] indeed.”

16:4 “They shall die gruesome deaths; they shall not be lamented nor shall they be buried, but they shall be like refuse on the face of the earth. They shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, and their corpses shall be meat for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth.” Also see 8:2, 9:22, 25:33, Deuteronomy 28:26, Psalm 79:2, Psalm 79:3, Psalm 83:10, Isaiah 5:25, Isaiah 18:6, Zephaniah 1:17.

Luke 17-34-37 “I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.”

And they answered and said to Him, “Where, Lord?”

So He said to them, “Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.”

Matthew 24 and Luke 17 match up well. Judge for yourselves.

16:7 Nor shall men break bread in mourning for them, to comfort them for the dead; nor shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or their mother.
Ezekiel 24:17 “Sigh in silence, make no mourning for the dead; bind your turban on your head, and put your sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips, and do not eat man’s bread of sorrow.

Hosea 9:4 “…but will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat will be defiled. For their bread will be for themselves…

Eating after funerals is nothing new.

17:4 “…for you have kindled a fire in My anger which shall burn forever.” The Hebrew words translated forever are olam (עוֹלָ֥ם) and adolam (עַד־עוֹלָ֥ם), which actually mean “for an indeterminate amount of time” and “a long time towards a goal.”

17:5 “Cursed is the [strong, warrior] man who trusts in man[kind] and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord.”

17:910 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?”

A famous quote and here is the answer: “I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.” This is where people get the idea to say, whenever they cannot tolerate criticism, “God knows my heart.”

17:19-27 Through Jeremiah, the Father told the people to just do the Sabbath—don’t carry burdens or conduct business, but they couldn’t even do that. Father knew they wouldn’t.

18:6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the Lord. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!”

2 Timothy 2:21 “Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”

Matthew 20:15a “Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things?” Also see Romans 9:20, Romans 9:21, Isaiah 19:25, Isaiah 45:9, Isaiah 64:8, Exodus 4:22, Job 10:3, Job 10:8, Psalm 100:3.

18:20 “Remember that I stood before You to speak good for them, to turn away Your wrath from them.” Wasn’t Jeremiah told not to pray for them? No wonder the Father had to remind him twice more after the first time.

18:21-23 Now Jeremiah wants revenge.

19:5 “…they have also built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or speak, nor did it come into My mind…” That is straight up demonic! Psalm 106:37 “They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.” Deuteronomy 12:31 “You must not worship the Lord your God in this way, because they practice for their gods every abomination which the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.” Deuteronomy 32:17 “They sacrificed to demons, not to God, To gods they did not know, To new gods, new arrivals That your fathers did not fear.”

20:7-12 Jeremiah complains, tries to quit, but can’t.

20:1415 Cursed be the day in which I was born! Let the day not be blessed in which my mother bore me! Let the man be cursed who brought news to my father, saying, “A male child has been born to you!” Making him very glad.
15:10 “Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me, a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent for interest, nor have men lent to me for interest. Every one of them curses me.”

Job 3:3 “May the day perish on which I was born, And the night in which it was said, ‘A male child is conceived.’”

21:8 “Now you shall say to this people, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.”’”

Deuteronomy 30:15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil…”

Deuteronomy 30:19I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live…”

Proverbs 12:28In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death.”

Deuteronomy 11:26 “See, today I am setting before you a blessing and a curse…”

Deuteronomy 30:1 “Now it shall come to pass, when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God drives you…”

Genesis 2:17 “…but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”

Choices, always, everyday, choices…

22:6 For thus says the Lord to the house of the king of Judah: “You are Gilead to Me, the head of Lebanon. Yet I surely will make you a wilderness, cities which are not inhabited.” In short, “I don’t know you; now, be gone!”

Matthew 7:23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

Psalm 6:8 “Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.”

Also see Psalm 119:115, Matthew 25:41, Luke 13:25, Luke 13:27.

22:13 “Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness and his chambers by injustice…”

Matthew 7:26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.”

Isaiah 5:8 “Woe to those who join house to house; they add field to field, till there is no place Where they may dwell alone in the midst of the land!”
Micah 3:10 “…who build up Zion with bloodshed and Jerusalem with iniquity…”

Habakkuk 2:12 “Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed, Who establishes a city by iniquity!”

Habakkuk 2:9 “Woe to him who covets evil gain for his house, That he may set his nest on high, That he may be delivered from the power of disaster!”

“…who uses his neighbor’s service without wages and gives him nothing for his work.”
Leviticus 19:13 “You shall not cheat your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of him who is hired shall not remain with you all night until morning.”

Deuteronomy 24:15 “Each day you shall give him his wages, and not let the sun go down on it, for he is poor and has set his heart on it; lest he cry out against you to the Lord, and it be sin to you.”

1 Timothy 5:18 For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain [Deuteronomy 25:4, 1 Corinthians 9:9],” and, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”

James 5:4 “Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.”

– Lots of mentions comparing Israel to sheep, having failures for shepherds [leaders], being scattered around the world, and the Lord gathering them back into the land.

23:4 “I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them…” and 3:15 “And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”

Ephesians 4:11 “And it was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors [shepherds] and teachers…” Also see Ezekiel 34:2, Ezekiel 34:23, Psalm 23, John 21, Ephesians 5:26, John 13:10, John 15:3.

Feed the sheep = food (give them the Word, the Instruction to follow) and water (make sure it is pure and just).

23:10 “For the land is full of adulterers; for because of a curse the land mourns. The pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up. Their course of life is evil, and their might is not right.”

Isaiah 24:5 “The earth is also defiled under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.”

Revelation 11:18 “The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, and those who fear Your name, small and great, and should destroy those who destroy the earth.”

Genesis 15:16 “But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.”

Numbers 35:3334 “So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it. Therefore do not defile the land which you inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell; for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel.’”

Also see 2:7, 3:9, 12:4, 16:18, Leviticus 18:24, Leviticus 18:25, Deuteronomy 21:8, Deuteronomy 21:23, Psalm 106:38, Psalm 107:34, Genesis 3:17.

Without repentance, intentional sin, violence, and bloodshed pollute an area, giving the Lord the right to either judge or kick out the inhabitants.

23:29Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?”
5:14 Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts: “Because you speak this word, Behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire, And this people wood, And it shall devour them.”
4:19 “O my soul, my soul! I am pained in my very heart! My heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, Because you have heard, O my soul, The sound of the trumpet, The alarm of war.”
20:9 Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name.” But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.”

Psalm 39:3 “My heart was hot within me; while I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue…”

Hosea 6:5 “Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of My mouth, and My judgments go forth like lightning.”

Luke 24:32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us as He spoke with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

Isaiah 53:10 “Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.”

Daniel 2:45 “Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold—the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure.”
