Three-Month Bible Reading Notes – Part 5 – Isaiah, Second Half

45:18 “Who did not create it in vain [formless]. Who formed it to be inhabited.” There are debates about this passage in light of Genesis 1:2. Did He create something formless and void, or did He cause it to become formless and void before He spoke the Earth’s order into existence?

45:23 “Every knee shall bow; every tongue shall take an oath.”

Romans 14:11 “For it is written: ‘As I live, says the LORD, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.’”
Philippians 2:10 “…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth…”

Isaiah 47 – Because of Babylon’s cruelty, idolatry, and divination, it will suffer as Judah had suffered.

48:8 “Surely from long ago your ear was not opened.” You were not paying attention. “For I knew that you would deal very treacherously, and were called a transgressor from the womb.” Even though He knew how we would be, He created us anyway.

48:16 “Come near to Me, hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, I was there. And now the Lord GOD and His Spirit Have sent Me.”

John 8:58 “Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.’”
Luke 10:18 “And He said to them, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.’”

Isaiah 49 – Another chapter about Jesus, Yeshua (salvation), Yahshua (God saves).

49:16 “See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands…”

John 20:27 “Then He said to Thomas, ‘Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.’”
Luke 24:40 “And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and feet.”

49:23 “And lick the dust from your feet.”

Luke 7:38 “…and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.”
Luke 7:45 “You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in.”
Psalm 72:9 “Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before Him, and His enemies will lick the dust.”

50:6 “I gave My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.” What Jesus endured: Matthew 26:67, Matthew 27:30, Mark 14:65, Mark 15:19, Luke 22:63.

51:1 “Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, you who seek the LORD…”

Proverbs 15:9 “The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but He loves him who follows righteousness.”

Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.”
Acts 17:27 “…so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us…”
Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

51:12 “Who are you that you should be afraid of a man who will die, and of the son of a man who will be made like grass?”

Psalm 118:6 “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
Psalm 56:4 “In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?”
Hebrews 13:6 “So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
Also see 2:22, Romans 8:31, Psalm 27:1.

52:13-15 – The Suffering Servant.

53:5 “…by His stripes we are healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. ‘By His stripes you are healed.’”

55:1 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.”

John 4:14 “…but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Revelation 3:18 “I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.”
Psalm 107:9 “For He satisfies the longing [thirsty] soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.”

55:8 “My thought are not your thoughts, nor are My ways, your ways.” Neither does He think or operate as we do. But, if we seeking after Him in persistence, He will show us pieces of His heart. Proverbs 25:2It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings [anointed ones] is to search out a matter.”

Deuteronomy 29:29 “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”

14:24 “The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, ‘Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, and as I have purposed, so it shall stand.’”

56:3 Nor let the eunuch say, “Here I am, a dry tree.” Trees symbolize people in Scripture.

56:4-5 “For thus says the LORD: “To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, And choose what pleases Me, And hold fast My covenant, Even to them I will give in My house And within My walls a place and a name Better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name That shall not be cut off.”

Matthew 19:12 “For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.”
Revelation 14:4 “These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.”
Acts 8:27-39 – the Ethiopian eunuch, who quoted Isaiah 53:7-8.

56:7 “For my house will be a house of prayer for all nations [peoples].” Also see Matthew 21:13, Mark 11:17, Luke 19:46.

56:8 “Yet I will gather to him others besides those who are gathered to him.”

John 10:16 “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold [Israel]; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock [humanity] and one shepherd [king].”

56:12 “Tomorrow will be as today, and much more abundant.” Affluence does that to people; nothing has changed.

57:10 “You have found the life of your hand; therefore you were not grieved.” This is a naughty reference. I will let y’all suss it out.

57:11 “Is it not because I have held My peace from of old that you do not fear Me?” Yes. *looks around for lightning strike*

57:13 “When you cry out, let your collection of idols deliver you.” LOL, the voice actor put a little attitude in his reading here. I love it!

57:14 “Take the stumbling block out of the way of My people.”

Matthew 16:23 “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense [stumbling block] to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” Also see Luke 17:1, Matthew 18:7.

1 Corinthians 8:9 “But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak.” Also see Romans 14:13, Romans 14:20.

59:7 “Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood.”

Romans 3:15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood.”

59:14 “And equity [straightness, right balance] cannot enter.”

59:17 “For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head.
He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak.”

Ephesians 6:14-17 “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

61:3 “The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness [depression].”

Colossians 3:10 “…and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him…”

Clothes symbolize one’s character, whether it’s genuine or false.

Isaiah 60 – Gentiles bless Israel.

61:1-2 is what He read in the synagogue at the start of His ministry in Luke 4:18-19. The rest will be fulfilled upon His return. Halleluyah!

62:2 “You shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord will name.”

Revelation 2:17 “To the one who overcomes, I will give the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone inscribed with a new name, known only to the one who receives it.”
Revelation 3:12 “The one who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will never again leave it. Upon him I will write the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God (the new Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven from My God), and My new name.”

62:11 “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Surely your salvation is coming; Behold, His reward is with Him, And His work before Him.’”

Matthew 16:27 “For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.”
Romans 2:6 [God] “will repay each one according to his deeds.”

63:23 Why are Your clothes red, and Your garments like one who treads the winepress? “I have trodden the winepress alone, and no one from the nations was with Me. I trampled them in My anger and trod them down in My fury; their blood spattered My garments, and all My clothes were stained.”

Revelation 19:13 “He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.”
Revelation 14:19-20 “So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses’ bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs.”

63:9 “In all their affliction He was afflicted.”

Exodus 3:7 “And the LORD said: ‘I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.’”

And the Angel of His Presence saved them.”

Exodus 23:20 “Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.”
Exodus 33:14 “And He said, ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’”

Deuteronomy 32:10 “He found [Israel] in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.”

63:17 “O LORD, why have You made us stray from Your ways, and hardened our heart from Your fear?” We are given choices.

64:6 “But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy [menstrual] rags.” I hate the term “sin nature” because it softens the impact of what we actually are—corrupted flesh that deserves to be destroyed, an irritant to His holiness.

64:8 “But now, O LORD, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and all we are the work of Your hand.” Also see Lamentations 4:2, Jeremiah 18:6, Romans 9:20, Romans 9:21, 29:16, 45:9, Job 10:9, Job 33:6, Psalm 40:2, John 9:6, 2 Corinthians 4:7.

65:4 “Who sit among the graves, and spend the night in the tombs; who eat swine’s flesh, and the broth of abominable things is in their vessels.”

66:17 “Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves, to go to the gardens after an idol in the midst, eating swine’s flesh and the abomination and the mouse, shall be consumed together,” says the LORD. Reminds me of the Gerasene demoniac.

65:8 “As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one says, ‘Do not destroy it, for a blessing is in it,’ So will I do for My servants’ sake, that I may not destroy them all.”

Life [the soul] is in the blood.” See Genesis 9:4, Leviticus 3:17, Leviticus 7:26, Leviticus 17:10. Leviticus 17:11, Leviticus 17:12, Leviticus 17:14, Leviticus 19:26, Deuteronomy 12:16, Acts 15:20, Acts 15:29, Acts 21:25.

Deuteronomy 32:14 “And you drank wine, the blood of the grapes.” Blood = life, soul.

65:12 “Because, when I called, you did not answer.” See 66:4, Proverbs 1:24, 2 Chronicles 36:15, Romans 10:21. This also reminds me of a story in Judges about the Benjamites not turning over the men who killed the Levite’s concubine and then Jabesh Gilead and Shiloh not answering the call to punish the Benjamites.

65:17 “I create new heavens and a new earth.” See Revelation 21:1, 2 Peter 3:13, 66:22, Revelation 6:14, 34:4.
And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.”

65:25 “And dust shall be the serpent’s food.”

Genesis 3:14 “So the LORD God said to the serpent: ‘Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.’”

Micah 7:17 “They will lick the dust like a snake, like reptiles slithering on the ground. They will crawl from their holes in the presence of the LORD our God; they will tremble in fear of You.”

66:1 and Acts 7:49 “Heaven is My throne, and the earth My footstool. What is this house that you will build to me? And where is the place of My rest?”
Matthew 5:34-35 “But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.”

66:4 “So will I choose their delusions, and bring their fears on them.”

Ezekiel 20:25 “I also gave them over to statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not live.”

Psalm 69:27 “Add iniquity to their iniquity; let them not share in Your righteousness.”
Psalm 81:12 “So I gave them up to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.”

Job 8:4 “When your children sinned against Him, He gave them over to their rebellion.”
44:18 “They do not know nor understand; for He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand.”

6:10 and Acts 28:27 “Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and return and be healed.”

Also see Deuteronomy 29:4, Jeremiah 5:21, Matthew 13:13, Matthew 13:14, Mark 4:12, John 12:40, Acts 28:26, Acts 28:27, Romans 1:24, Romans 11:8, Isaiah 6:9.

66:7-13 The rebirth of Israel with the Gentiles’ help.

66:24 “And they shall go forth and look upon the corpses of the men who have transgressed against Me. For their worm does not die, and their fire is not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”

Mark 9:44, 46, 48 “…where ‘their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.’” Some Bibles only contain verse 48.
Matthew 3:12 “His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Matthew 25:41 “Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’”

5:14 “Therefore Sheol [hell] has enlarged itself And opened its mouth beyond measure; Their glory and their multitude and their pomp, And he who is jubilant, shall descend into it.”
14:11 “Your pomp has been brought down to Sheol, along with the music of your harps. Maggots are your bed and worms your blanket.”

Yup, that sounds like hell.
